The original final mystery...

In this interview with Rob Thomas, he reveals the original plan for Season Three... primarily, the final mystery of the season:

"We know what it's going to be. It'll be a mystery unlike any of the others we've done before. I've wanted to get a mystery in which our nice characters like Wallace (Percy Daggs III) and Mac (Tina Majorino) could be fully involved. You know, Wallace has always been sort of absent from the big mystery because no one's going to believe him as a suspect, you know? I can tie up Logan and Weevil into a mystery, because they have that moral ambiguity. But no one's going to believe in Wallace as a suspect. No one will believe if, like, the big clue was in Wallace's locker. And so, in choosing a third mystery, I wanted a mystery in which Wallace and Mac could be key players, where they have really interesting stuff to do. So that's all I'll say about that."

I thought I'd pose this question here, on the Veronica Mars forum. Does anybody have ANY clue what this mystery could be?

I've never seen anything that indicates what the "one big mystery" for season 3 would have been before the CW insisted on there not being one. But my guess is that it would have been a variation of the Hurst rapes and Hurst murders combined into big arc. This story line was revealed, and left unsolved, at the end of season 2, so Rob Thomas probably planned to make this the big story line for Season 3. I'm guessing that the Hurst murders would have been incorporated as well, with a close link between the two, because the rapes alone might not be enough to fill the storyline for the entire season.

OK, I feel weird typing the word "rapes" so many times in a row. But "murder" is OK for some reason. ??

What do you think? Does this sound like the most likely storyline?
